Surveying the material already covered, Lama Alan structures the presentation on the view, meditation, and conduct in the context of meditation on emptiness. Considered the hardest step, establishing the correct middle way view is foundational and unavoidable in the Dzogchen and other Madhyamaka practice traditions. Once the view has been produced and can be sustained, meditation on emptiness is blissfully transformative. Lama Alan emphasizes the sequence of phenomenological and then ontological investigation of the nature of experience.
Post-meditation times are when conduct comes to bear, based on a nonconceptual pristine awareness untainted by identifications and delusion. The practice of emptiness calls for the de-subjectification of mind and the de-objectification of the outer world. Dwelling in the luminous knowing state of the dharmakāya, conduct unfolds naturally, free from identification with serene immediacy of the present moment.
